Cowboy Spirit

Solo Coyote

I was raised in these canyons. I spent much of my life here in elementary school collecting salamanders, toads, lizards and snakes.

Other than practicing my trombone, and later my guitar... the canyons were my favorite place to hang out. Perhaps I am a reincarnated Native American or old west cowboy.

In 2013 I met an aged woman at a funeral I was attending. She took me aside and asked me a lot of questions. She said that I harbored the past lives of several people and that my current "Cowboy Spirit" was the completion of my ancestor's dreams who settled in California during the Gold Rush.

She was very convincing and somehow able to see deep inside of me. Once in a while I meet a spiritual person who can penetrate my soul. It feels a little creepy as they roam through my heart, but with their seemingly good intentions, I allow them to see my spiritual nature. The strangest experience of that time was in a church service.

During the writing of my Supersoul book, I came to understand some of my appreciation of nature in a new way.

When I was a teenager in 1968 and 1969, I would tell my mom, "I'm staying at Bob's house." Then I'd stash my sleeping bag under some of these sage and rosemary bushes. Later that night, when the acid wore off, I'd sleep here with the coyotes.

I've avoided telling my kids a lot of these stories...
